Country of origin: China
Study abroad school: Hiroshima Shudo University
Please introduce yourself.
My name is Gui Dengjin. I’m from Jiangxi Province in China.
I am currently enrolled in my 2nd year at the Faculty of Commercial Sciences Department of Business Administration at Hiroshima Shudo University.
My hobby is cooking. I cook my own meals almost every day.
The meals that I cook are a fusion of Chinese and Japanese cooking, which I call “Japanese-style Chinese cooking” [laughs].
What prompted me to take an interest in Japan was the influence of one of my superiors whom I met while I was working at a Japanese company in China.
Directly working under this superior, I was able to learn many things about the Japanese way of business, which I felt I needed to study.
As I continued to learn the Japanese language, my curiosity toward Japan became stronger, and I became determined to study abroad.
Why did you choose to study abroad in Hiroshima?

Before it was decided that I would study abroad, I was able to receive training in the Japanese language and Japanese culture for roughly 2 and a half months at the Hiroshima International Center in Saijo.
During this time, I came to appreciate the beauty of my surroundings, and I was able to meet some very kind people.
Thanks to this training, I was also able to visit a Japanese language school in Hiroshima.
After actually coming here, I found it to be such a wonderful place, and I decided to choose Hiroshima.

What do you like about Hiroshima?
I like how it’s kind of like the countryside, but not really the countryside [laughs].
What I mean is that while there are many mountains and the natural environment is beautiful, you won’t face any inconveniences if you wish to do such things as to go shopping or to go eat out at a fancy restaurant.
Since the transit system is convenient, if you want to go to Osaka or Tokyo, you can simply take the Shinkansen (bullet train).
Since you can experience city life while also enjoying the abundance of nature, I am certain that this place is the number 1 choice for international students!
Safety is also a key factor.
Since earthquakes rarely occur in Hiroshima, this point was also very important for me.
Please provide a message to those considering to study abroad in Japan.

If I were to give advice, I would say that you first need to build up enough Japanese language ability where you won’t have trouble during your everyday life.
If you come to Japan while you still cannot speak Japanese at all, I believe you will face many difficulties.
If you face many difficulties at the beginning, especially when you are studying and living abroad, it is easy to fall into a negative way of thinking.
I believe that you should gain the bare minimum level of Japanese ability that is required for your everyday life.
Choosing your university is an opportunity that can change your life, and once you have chosen the university you wish to aim for, I hope that we can all work hard to reach for our goals!
