Building on its previous incarnation as the Hiroshima Industrial Junior College, which was founded in 1961, the university itself was established in 1963 as the Hiroshima Institute of Technology (Faculty of Engineering).
Ever since then, the university has continued in its development, through the establishment of a graduate school of engineering and through the reorganization and expansion of its faculties and departments, and over this period, the university has sent roughly 50,000 of its alumni out into the world.
As a science and engineering university currently composed of 4 faculties, namely, its Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Applied Information Science, Faculty of Environmental Studies, and Faculty of Life Sciences, and its 12 departments, it aims to foster the growth of engineers equipped with both cutting-edge technical skills and a rich sense of humanity and that can help to bring joy and happiness to those around them.
