Daruma festival

This festival has been continued for about 440 years, dating back to the end of the Muromachi Era. You are supposed to entrust your wishes to darumas, which are dolls of the Zen sect of Buddhism.

You can see a gigantic daruma, the largest in Japan and also the symbol of Shinmei City.

Oyster Festivals

Hiroshima is the country’s largest production center of oysters. You can sample and buy oysters at oyster festivals across the prefecture.

You can enjoy a variety of oyster dishes besides grilled oysters, depending on the festival, such as oysters sautéed in butter, oyster rice porridge, and oysters cooked in a pot.
