Toukasan (festival for the start of wearing yukatas)

It is known as one of the three major festivals in Hiroshima, and people in Hiroshima are supposed to start wearing yukatas from this day on.

from the first Friday to Sunday of June

Toukasan

The city will be full of people wearing yukatas during the three days of the festival. It will be a good opportunity for international students to wear traditional Japanese yukatas, which are lightweight kimono for summer.

Fireworks events

The Miyajima Water Fireworks Display is a very unique fireworks event in Japan, where over 100 underwater fire flowers as big as 30 centimeters are set off from under the sea with beautiful background music.

At the Miyajima Water Fireworks Display, together with beautiful music, you will see a magnificent view of the World Heritage torii shrine gate and fireworks.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony

A ceremonial to console the victims and to pray for peace is held on the day that an atomic bomb was dropped on the city in 1945 for the first time in the world.

Lantern floating ceremony

Besides the families of the deceased, many people who wish for peace visit from all over the world. In the evening a lantern floating ceremony takes place in the Honkawa River which runs in front of the Atomic Bomb Dome. Papers with the names of the victims and messages are released into the water.

The events that we introduce here are only a few. There are many more events besides these in Hiroshima!!
